Getting Crafty with Laura Ashley

 

On Sunday, I was fortunate enough to be invited to a Laura Ashley craft day at RosyLee in the Northern Quarter and it was interesting to say the least. I'm not a craft whiz and even my baking comes at a push (you wouldn't believe how long it takes to get my baking right) but crafting is definitely not my forte.

Walking into the room, I was greeted with my worst fear, the rows of sewing machines (which I can't use) and slowly had to face the fact that I was going to have to try and not sew my finger- but we'll get back to the sewing...

It was honestly so much fun - they divided the group in two and half of us went off to make origami gift boxes and little bows, the other off to make present sacks.

I was in the origami group. We were all handed square cutouts of Laura Ashley wallpaper and were then talked through how to make the box - we're being sent more detailed instructions and as soon as I've sent them, I'll include them in this post. There's a picture of my box above - these were quite therapeutic to make and if I can successfully make one, so can you! 

Then we went onto the sewing... This was eventful. I only managed to sew both sides of my present sack together twice which is definitely a bit of an accomplishment really. I'm quite proud of the final result of my present sack!

The whole day was brilliant, and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm glad I wasn't the only person there who can't even sew a button! Thank you so much to everyone who organised it!

Cocktails in the Sky: Little Black Dress Collection Launch

One of the most exciting things about being a blogger is being invited to events like these, and if the event includes champagne and canapés, I'm there. I was recently invited to the launch of Little Black Dress' new collection which is all named after icons that you're sure to recognise like Princess Diana, Carrie from Sex and the City, Alexa Chung, Victoria Beckham and the list goes on! Each dress is designed with that icon in mind whether its based off of a dress they've worn or a culmination of trends they typically wear - it's uncanny how easy it is to guess which dress represents who! An LBD is an absolute wardrobe essential and Little Black Dress has numerous dresses available and with each iconic dress being so unique - you're bound to find one you like! My personal favourites were the Diana and Marilyn dress (see pictures below).

The evening on a whole was lovely and the team over at Little Black Dress and Fluorescent PR were fantastic - everyone was enjoying themselves, and the room was buzzing! Thank you so much for putting on a smashing event!

A Night In Paris - DEBRA

DEBRA is a national charity, based in the UK, that supports families and individuals that have been affected by EB. EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa) is a group of genetic disorders that result in the fragility of the skin and occasionally membranes and organs as well. People who have the disorder can blister, get sores or burn at the slightest touch which makes going about daily tasks even more difficult.  It can be fatal to infants and there are estimated to be around 5,000 people in the UK who have it. There is no currently known cure for it.

DEBRA is an amazing organisation that provides support to those who have been affected be EB, through means such as provisions of nurses, social care and vital funding for research into the disorder. 

It is truly heartbreaking to see pictures of those affected as children are unable to go about normal activities for fear of damaging their skin.

To raise money for DEBRA, there is a charity event happening on the 22nd of February at The Palace Hotel on Oxford Road with the theme 'A Night in Paris'. The night features a champagne reception, French cuisine, a catwalk and market stalls. Vogue's Fashion's Night Out - Hervia & The Arndale

On Thursday October 10th, I was fortunate enough to attend a couple of events as part of Vogue's Fashion's Night out in Manchester.

I was very fortunate to be wearing an amazing black chiffon playsuit and metal accented heels from ASOS which were the perfect combination of relaxed, casual style whilst still being dressy. 

To be honest, as I had never attended such an event before, I was unsure as what I should expect but I was pleasantly surprised by what was on offer. After meeting up with a friend, Olivia for a quick bite at Nandos, we tottered off to Spring Gardens for the first event of the evening at Hervia.

Hervia Bazaar is a designer boutique located on Spring Gardens, just off Market Street that stocks brands such as Comme des Garcon and Jeremy Scott and many pieces from the new collection were on display! We were greeted by an amazing display of Asian sweets - some which brought back waves of nostalgia from my childhood in Malaysia! After browsing the store for a good portion of time, we grabbed a drink, chatted and moved on to our next location; H&M.

H&M on Market Street was set up much like a movie premiere, with red carpet and flood lighting, and Olivia and I took advantage of the photo booth, throwing in some of the props on display such as hats and fur coats, resulting in several silly photos.

Following numerous selfies, photos, drinks and conversations with various other attendees, Olivia and I retreated to the Arndale centre for a coffee and relax at the end of the evening - a very necessary come down after the constant buzz of the evening.

The night eventually drew to a close, with my taking off my ASOS heels and swapping into a pair of flats and eventually traipsing back home, arms laden with goodybags.
