An Instagram Weekend: Derbyshire Wedding

As many of you are aware, I've been to Derbyshire and if you've been tracking #elliegoestoderbyshire you will know I also attended a wedding!

I had an absolutely fantastic time and a picture really does say a thousand words so I'll let them do the talking!

Arriving on the Monday, I spent a week which consisted of long walks, being chased by cows, walking, cooing at sheep, more walking and finally the wedding!

As wedding photos come out, I'll post more from then but I wore a H&M dress, H&M cardigan, ASOS clutch and New Look suede nude heels - my hair was in halo braids which you can find in the beauty section of my blog!

You're Never Too Old To Wear a Pinafore!

One thing that has always been a personal struggle is finding the willingness to step outside my comfort zone - something that has been experienced by many my age. This was echoed when I was sent a velvet pinafore, which is undoubtedly gorgeous but something I would never buy or even consider wearing! But it is truly hard to say no to something that arrives on your doorstep so I ventured into the unknown and can now truthfully say that I am in love.

Velvet is back and wearing this velvet pinafore from ASOS along with a longsleeved black top from BooHoo (with the very necessary tights) is ideal for the 'warmer' autumn days as jeans do get tiresome. To add a more casual edge, these Comme des Garcons converse from Hervia were the perfect solution; the whole outfit coming together as more sporty casual, without making me look like I belonged in playschool.

ASOS is the perfect website to find affordable and on trend pieces so I would highly recommend that you head over to their website and have a look around - of course there is the added bonus of free shipping which no one can say no to!

Happy halloween!

Vogue's Fashion's Night Out: Asos

I was fortunate to attend Vogue's Fashion's Night Out this year and it was a day unlike any other!

Wearing head to toe Asos, aside from my bag, I opted to walk to the train station in a pair of flats instead of the Hong Kong Heels (which were rather tricky to walk in, I must say!), and made my way into the city centre where I met a friend for a quick bite to eat before meandering our way down from the Arndale centre to Spring Gardens for our first event of the evening at a boutique called Hervia. Due to a busy schedule and not much time, we didn't spend huge amounts of time but spent long enough browsing the latest collections and enjoyed a quick drink and a bite to eat. All in all, it was a good hour spent, a nice evening and a decidedly nice shop.

Following the detour to Hervia, we moved on to H&M where we enjoyed our fifteen minutes (or should I say five) of fame in the photobooth, contorting our faces into silly faces to our hearts content! Check out my instagram for the photo; it was definitely a good laugh!

After Hervia and H&M came Selfridges which was absolutely jam packed! Yet again, we took our time wandering around the store, sampling the free food and drinks but eventually gave up squeezing in between the increasingly large number of intoxicated individuals and retreated to Starbucks, in time for a latte and a moment to rest now aching feet - heels are definitely not designed for comfort!

And that my friends, was the end of our evening in Manchester. Make sure you follow my instagram for real time updates at any future fashiony events!

Vogue's Fashion's Night Out - Hervia & The Arndale

On Thursday October 10th, I was fortunate enough to attend a couple of events as part of Vogue's Fashion's Night out in Manchester.

I was very fortunate to be wearing an amazing black chiffon playsuit and metal accented heels from ASOS which were the perfect combination of relaxed, casual style whilst still being dressy.

To be honest, as I had never attended such an event before, I was unsure as what I should expect but I was pleasantly surprised by what was on offer. After meeting up with a friend, Olivia for a quick bite at Nandos, we tottered off to Spring Gardens for the first event of the evening at Hervia.

Hervia Bazaar is a designer boutique located on Spring Gardens, just off Market Street that stocks brands such as Comme des Garcon and Jeremy Scott and many pieces from the new collection were on display! We were greeted by an amazing display of Asian sweets - some which brought back waves of nostalgia from my childhood in Malaysia! After browsing the store for a good portion of time, we grabbed a drink, chatted and moved on to our next location; H&M.

H&M on Market Street was set up much like a movie premiere, with red carpet and flood lighting, and Olivia and I took advantage of the photo booth, throwing in some of the props on display such as hats and fur coats, resulting in several silly photos.

Following numerous selfies, photos, drinks and conversations with various other attendees, Olivia and I retreated to the Arndale centre for a coffee and relax at the end of the evening - a very necessary come down after the constant buzz of the evening.

The night eventually drew to a close, with my taking off my ASOS heels and swapping into a pair of flats and eventually traipsing back home, arms laden with goodybags.

Specs Appeal

Plaid, tartan, check, whatever you want to call it, I love it.

It is so effortlessly chic that any outfit can look stylish. Throwing together my tartan nightdress and a pair of jeans alongside my ugg slippers, I was ready for a night in accompanied by a steaming hot coffee and the latest issue of Vogue. What more could a girl want?

Sometimes we need a night in, a night of pampering and that is exactly what I indulged in - spending a couple of ours in my warmly lit bedroom, writing a couple of blog posts and catching up on some reading. It was a much needed escape from the hectic world I find myself in.

Oversizing It

My Topshop Oversized boyfriend coat has been an absolute saviour for these past cooler days as it's wonderful felt texture has cut the cold winds and paired with indigo jeans, buckle boots and a silky blouse, it is an ideal fall outfit.

Apologies for the rough mirror capture but I am yet to find a suitable photographer that is willing to snap a couple of shots on a daily basis for me - but rest assured, I'm still searching. But until then, mirror and self timer shots shall have to suffice!

But Baby It's Cold Outside

It is cold. There is no other word to describe the weather apart from cold and with it predicted to snow in the UK in October, the coats are being dusted off and thick socks being pulled on because it is cold and is going to be cold for quite a while to come.

But it's also wet.

The UK is famous for it's rain and it has been raining almost constantly for the month of September - bar a couple of wonderfully dry days earlier on but the rain is unlike what I have seen before as it is a misty wetness that soaks you in seconds without being completely wet - a paradox in itself.

So I have bought a coat - a lovely warm felt oversized boyfriend coat from Topshop which is big enough to fit over jumpers and shall hopefully (fingers crossed) keep me toasty warm during these next months.

Winter is coming and I hope you're all ready, because I certainly aren't.

Am I Rock 'n' Roll Yet?

Leather is in. There is no doubting that but with so many opportunities to style this trend, it is very easy to take a wrong turn into looking like you belong on the back of a Harley Davidson instead of belonging on a street style blog.

Leather jackets are the perfect way to follow this trend without abandoning any previous styles you may like. Jackets come in all shapes and sizes from distressed to fur lined to quilted and it is very much a matter of personal taste, mine being this £39.80 one from New Look. Personally, I like cleaner cuts so a distressed jacket would never go with many of my clothes but this one was perfect.

Paired with a long sleeved blouse from H&M, dark wash jeans and cut out boots (also from New Look), I have been wearing this jacket almost daily as it is hard to go wrong with such a wardrobe staple.

Outfit of the Day: Trip into Manchester

Hello, hello, hello!

Long time no speak, eh?

I'm so sorry for the delay in posting but I've recently moved back to the UK (yay) so everything has been rather hectic, so please forgive me!

Due to this rather busy time, I've been hopeless with actually taking OOTD photos but managed to find a spare moment for one on polyvore which is my new addiction; the link for mine is in the right hand column if you would like to give me a quick follow!

  1. Rolling Stones band t-shirt from Primark
  2. H&M Textured Jersey Skater Skirt
  3. Leather ankle wedge boots from Next
  4. Aviator sunglasses from H&M

I promise to be much more competent with my posting as a couple of you mentioned my lack of and tomorrow I shall be posting an updated room tour as I've moved countries and therefore have a new room!

Thank you for bearing with me!

Naturally

My normal everyday makeup look is something that many people requested I share and back when I made youtube videos, I did film a tutorial however I deleted it. But I decided to do a written explanation that hopefully makes sense!

For basic coverage, I blend a little bit of foundation and an intensive moisturiser to form a light tinted moisturiser that provides light coverage without being too heavy on my skin. Following that, I apply green tinted concealer which counters redness, under my eyes and on any breakouts.

For my eyes, I sweep a shimmery gold over the entire lid and a more chesnut brown in the corner and using a blending brush, I create a gradient. The combination of a matte and shimmery eye shadow colour really tones it down. Underneath my eyebrow I tend to use a silver/yellow shadow as a highlight but I would recommend Nars highlighter despite it being liquid.

Instead of a pencil eyeliner, I use an angled brush and a dark brown eyeshadow on my lashline which mimics the effect of eyeliner but softens it significantly. In the corner of my eyes, I smudge white eyeshadow which helps to brighten everything up especially if it's early in the morning and I look tired! I like using the Maybelline Falsies mascara in brown/black on my upper lashes but leave my lower ones as they are.

Some people may also pencil in their eyebrows but as mine are quite heavy, I don't see the need and leave them as they are! Just make sure they are shaped well.

And finally, on my lips I use Topshop's 'Rumour Has It' nude lipstick and depending on the occasion, sometimes apply L'Oreal Angel Shimmer lipgloss on top for a multilayered effect.

Products I use: Rimmel 16 Hour Lasting Finish Foundation, Sephora Concealer, H&M Eyeshadow palette, Maybelline Falsies mascara, Topshop Rumour Has It lipstick and L'Oreal Angel Shimmer lipgloss.
