Get Ready With Me: Duvet Edition

Unfortunately it is winter and with winter comes horrible colds that make your throat, head and brain feel absolutely dreadful. Whilst I used to love being off school, I don't so much like being off work as I don't like missing something I enjoy doing.

But alas, I woke up this morning with no voice and glands the size of piglets, meaning no work for Ellie.

So I slept in and went about house confined activities that did help me feel a little better about myself.

One of my favourite things to do is paint my nails and after a full weekend, they were worse for wear. It can be very therapeutic to make ones hands look gorgeous again and that is exactly what I did - pastel colours managed to perk me up quite a bit.

I've had the March issue of Elle floating around my room for the past couple of weeks, it was bought for a train journey but unfortunately was never read. Lily Allen is one of my favourite people at the moment and it also secretly excited me that there was an article in there which was written by someone who used to live where I did!

I seem to collect candles and I've had this one for absolutely ages but have finally lit it. It's a simple Vanilla one from Tu by Sainsbury's but the frosted glass on the outside of the candle is what made it that little bit more appealing. My room smells fantastically vanilla. (Can anyone spot my new Cath Kidston mug? But it contains lemsip, not tea.)

Thankfully, I've managed to keep myself busy and have avoided feeling sorry for myself, instead opting to clean my room and change my bedsheets. I'm certainly feeling much better! What do you like to do when you're feeling under the weather?

Taylor Swift for Elle USA March 2013

Ah, Taylor Swift. The once country sweetheart has made a rapid transition into the world of emotional pop. Her not so subtle songs about her exes have been infuriating fans over the world with some even calling her fake and an attention seeker, none the less, she still remains one of the few singers that can perform live.

I hope some of you have been made aware of the little grammy situation that occurred a day or so ago when whilst Taylor was opening the awards ceremony with We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, she not so subtly said one of the spoken parts 'I love you' in a British accent - a possible jab at Harry Styles? Hmm, we'll never know.

Nevertheless, her spread for the March issue of Elle USA is simply gorgeous and I simply adore the edgy look that she has been going for, the stylists playing akin to this. I actually quite like how each shot is so different and that they don't have a theme running through it, almost like her varying moods in each of her tracks! My favourite shot would have to be the more boho look with the wide rimmed black floppy hat. She started embodying the 'boho chic' look a year or so ago and personally, I thought it really suited her, paired with her edgier songs. But to be honest, her shaming of past relationships has come a little bit too far especially as it is pretty obvious who each track is about (especially as she has only had one british boyfriend... Hmmmm). Anyways, it would be all too easy to criticise her music and immaturity but unfortunately her attempted 'bad girl' look has really tarnished everything she does. In fact, I actually think that her expression in the close up shot looks like a bit of a smirk, and that kind of put me off the shoot as well.
Mind you, had it been any other celebrity the styling is gorgeous and as I said before, I like how there is not a clear thematic element running through the shoot.

Sound off in the comments below, what are your thoughts on T-Swizzles latest attitude and what about the magazine spread?

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley; Yay or Nay?

One of my favourite articles in the ELLE UK September Issue was the photo shoot and interview with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Rosie has to be one of my favourite models as she really does have a unique beauty. I adored her in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows and sincerely hope that she walks in the November 2012 show!
Her spread in ELLE was amazing and I shall be savouring that issue for a long time.
What do you think? Isn't her hair just amazing?

Beauty Trends This Season

One positive note that I found in the ELLE UK September issue was the inclusion of beauty trends that were featured in several recent fashion shows. Below are some of my favourites:
{I love this look so much! It's just so simple and elegant which provides a subtle look for any occasion}

{As a proud owner of a scarlet lipstick, I believe it to be a necessary product in your makeup bag. Paired with a simple eye, it provides bold statement that is perfect for an evening look}

{Wow. Kudos to anyone who can pull off a blue metallic eye look. Whenever I try to mimic the look I end up looking like I have a black eye!}

{A classic but simple look that anyone can pull off}

Which is your favourite beauty trend?

UK September Issue Round up

The time has arrived, the September issues have been released. Are you ready?
I tell you what, I was so excited to see what stops VOGUE and ELLE pulled out but I was bitterly disappointed.
The covers were bland and the content wasn't fascinating and didn't tell me anything I didn't know. I was looking forward to revolutionary new content and experienced writers yet the writing came across as informal and basic.
However, I did prefer the ELLE UK September issue over the VOGUE UK issue although that may be because I prefer Rosie Huntington-Whitely to Karlie Kloss.

Androgynous chic is very much in this season but the extent in which you choose to take the trend is dependent on the individual. For instance, some may be able to pull off the whole look including oxfords, button down shirts and bow ties where as others may only be able to wear a simple blazer with jeans. I know for sure that I will definitely be investing in a simple boy blazer sometime soon.
