Bold Purple & Gold Eyes: Autumnal Party Look

I love autumn and winter and one of the highlights is that it's party season which means dusting off the ole sparkly dress and glamming up ready for an evening filled with the inevitable mulled wine and Christmas nibbles. It's fantastic.

The second best thing is that makeup gets darker, smokier and a whole other range of colours opens up. I'm talking cranberry and purple tones; colours that if worn incorrectly can make it look like a bit of a black eye has happened, but it doesn't have to.

For this look I used the Sleek palette in "Vintage Romance" which is full of purple, cranberry and gold tones in both matte and shimmer - and they're incredibly pigmented. And for the lip I used Sleek Matte Lipstick in "Dare". All other products are standard foundations and concealers.

Here's how I did it:

  1. Start with your standard base - I used YSL Touche d'eclat* in the shade Beige alongside the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. For my brows, I filled them in with my Barry M Brow palette.
  2. Then I warmed up my face using the Bourjois Paris Bronzer.
  3. And the fun part, the eyes! I used a cream gold shadow called "Meet in Madrid" from the Sleek palette. It's highly pigmented and is a good all over base. ((At the bottom of the page is an image of the palette to give you a better idea of colours!))
  4. Then for the outer creases, I packed on the "Forever in Florence", blending as I went. I made sure it was highly pigmented and therefore contrasted massively to the gentler gold.
  5. I then took "Honeymoon in Hollywood" onto a liner brush and brushed it along my lower waterline, taking it slightly below my lower lashes to make sure the colour was obvious.
  6. Whack on the mascara!
  7. Using Sleek's "Dare" I outlined my lips and then filled it in with the same colour - the lipstick doesn't need a liner due to it being matte but I find tracing my lips first means I don't have to worry about a messy lipstick job!
There we go! I'm in love with the final look as it allows you to use colours that when used incorrectly, can look messy and slightly bruise like but when mixed up with other hues, look sophisticated and perfect for that christmas ball! The look is so full on that I find it works perfectly with a little black dress and a simple pair of heels.

This is a look I'll be wearing alot this autumn. Maybe not everyday, but certainly in the evening!

Autumn Wish List - Bags

A prominent trend as seen in recent fashion shows has been satchel bags and mini backpacks which has once again ignited a desire to spend my entire bank balance on bags that I can neither afford nor will use sufficiently - alas is the problem of a student.

But the price of such designer bags cannot stop me from wanting them, so I compiled a short wishlist which really should be titled "Things I shall never own but want all the same".

I have been in love with Mulberry for as long as I can remember seeing their Bayswater purse adorning the arm of a beloved celebrity and needless to say that their newest collection has really tested the strength of my purse strings. The Del Rey (2.) - inspired by indie musical sweetheart Lana Del Rey - is a favourite as it remains so classic and simple, a difference to its Alexa bag (of which I constantly lust after). The Effie satchel (3.) is another everyday bag that I wish belonged in my wardrobe, alas it doesn't and unfortunately nor does the H&M similar that sold out within a matter of weeks. I had my chance and missed it, but that is the luck of the draw.

Now, I keep banging on about the new Punk trend and along with that is the common appearance of mini backpacks - a throwback from the late 90's, early 2000 where I'm almost certain that my 5 year old self had a couple as well as her barbies. One of the main reasons why I don't have the affordable Mini Patent Backpack from Topshop (5.) - a dead ringer for the far less affordable Chanel bag - is that I wouldn't use it. I unfortunately have not used a backpack since I completed my Duke of Edinburgh award and doubt that I shall ever need one again, (I believe a round of applause is necessary for my self control here).

What is your favourite bag of the season?

Autumn Hair

[Loosely curled hair and a spritz of texturiser to relax the curls]

[Tied back curls into a side pony - very convenient if you couldn't be bothered to wash last night's curls out!]

[A side plait. Yet again, a quick and easy option to put that volumised hair to use!]

One thing is for certain, summer is definitely over. With days growing shorter and consecutively shorter, with nights darker and mornings fogier, it is time to break out those beanies and coats because winter is coming and it's going to be a cold one.

Having been back in the UK for little under two months, a primary element that differs to Asia is the wind. Although the days are cool, it is really the wind that chaps those lips and chafes the nose.

In short, it is time to tie up the hair or opt for a more wind-resistant hairstyle. I waved goodbye to my normally straight hair and said hello to my natural waves (enhanced by hairspray and a curling wand).

Based upon the pouring rain before, I know that I shall be opting for more tied back or messy hair styles, because whats worse than straight hair gone frizzy!
