Motivational Monday: Sixteen Small Steps to Happiness

Many blogs have started doing a series called 'Motivational Monday' and I am aware of how difficult Monday's are so I decided to hop on the bandwagon. Being merely an eighteen year old student, I am by no means a psychologist so do not completely swear by my advice but I do take the time to look up and research these little things so I swear they are somewhat valid.

Being a complete tumblr addict, I came across a post suggesting sixteen steps to happiness and I simply had to share it!

  1. Push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise.
  2. Push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable.
  3. Erase processed food from your diet. start with no lollies, chips, biscuits, then erase pasta, rice, cereal, then bread. use the rule that if a child couldn’t identify what was in it, you don’t eat it.
  4. Get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else.
  5. Stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything.
  6. Buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice.
  7. Buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small.
  8. Strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. put a massive scoop of scented fabric softener in there and wash. make your bed in full.
  9. Organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle.
  10. Have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, the back of your neck.
  11. Push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog.
  12. Message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. push yourself to follow through.
  13. Think long and hard about what interests you. crime? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything.
  14. Become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. compliment people on their cute clothes. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends.
  15. Lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you.
Many of these are also health related but they do say that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind!

Have a lovely Monday folks and a great week ahead!

Self Esteem

We all have our down days so I decided to share with you all a little post I found on tumblr. Remember, life is what you make it so try and keep a smile on that beautiful face of yours and everything will seem better! Trust me on that one. Hopefully this is the little push in the right direction with regard to any self esteem issues you may be dealing with. Just think about them.

  1. Stop comparing yourself to others.
  2. Stop putting yourself down, and attacking yourself with your own thoughts and words.
  3. Don't reject compliments. Instead of automatically brushing them off, recognise that what has been said is true.
  4. Deliberately affirm yourself with positive statements like "I am a valuable person; I am unique and have talents and gifts; I am likeable and loveable." Think The Help; "You is kind, you is smart, you is important."
  5. Surround yourself with positive people who can see and affirm your worth and value. At the same time avoid critical and negative people who get a kick out of putting others down.
  6. Make a list of the goals you have achieved, and your minor and major successes in life.
  7. Make a list of your top 10 traits and remind yourself of these important qualities.
  8. Be true to yourself. It's important that you live an authentic life and be the person you were meant to be. Don't try to be a replica of anybody else. You have so much to offer - so always be yourself.
Now although some of these may seem narcissistic, they aren't, they are simply boosting your own confidence. Unfortunately, the world we live in leads us to believe that we can't love ourselves without being cocky or self-absorbed but the reality is, you have to love yourself before anyone else can love you.

It's worth thinking about. Trust me on this one.

Daily Doses of Inspiration

Some days are incredibly hard to get through, those days where nothing seems to go right and it feels like the world is crumbling around us and I am bound to have these at least three or four times a month but thankfully I have found a way to combat the oh so regular emotional trauma.
Due to my tumblr addiction, I regularly stumble across gorgeous images or inspirational quotes and these are some of mine that help me through those days.

My favourite is the first quote; shopping always helps me get through any issues and the fourth image, although it seems weird that a list of words to use cheers me up, but hey, I'm an english literature student, I love words!

The sixth image is something that I use to get through my blogging days, as I do receive criticism from various people which does upset me so this quote from Ralph Lauren really does remind me that I am doing this blog about my style with some fashion; not all of it.

The final image may seem quite odd but the thought of kissing with red lipstick is so beautiful and it kind of reminds me of Marilyn Monroe, and kisses make everyone smile! I hope that this cheered up those of you that may be having a down day! Smile, everything will be worth it in the end.
