You know when you're younger and at the start of the school year your teachers get you to write down any targets or ambitions? I certainly do and believe me, I used to think it was absolutely rubbish. I used to mess about and write all sorts of tosh and I actually found one of my school books from year 10 with said targets in it so decided to share them with you! Now, these were from a PSHE lesson where my lovely teacher had us write down what we wanted to do with our life. Please bare in mind that I was 14 at the time, so these are rather embarrassing:
- Grow.
- Dye my hair blonde.
- Become an actress.
- Write a book.
- Delete my tumblr.
- Become a radio DJ
I actually could not stop laughing when I read these! The first one made me convulse with laughter simply because it isn't exactly a goal that I have to work towards, it is really quite amazing to think that somehow I could will myself to grow. Needless to say, I did grow but because of genetics not due to a strong sense of will power. My biology teacher would be absolutely cringing at the sight of this goal simply because it means that I was not paying attention to any of the lessons regarding the impact of genes upon individuals, which I wasn't really but oh well.
Now, I did dye my hair blonde(ish) and it was probably one of the worst decisions of my life. Ever. I shall always appreciate my natural Brunette colouring and hopefully I shall never choose to experiment again. I'm pretty sure at the time I had a fixation with blondes and I truly believed that blondes did have more fun however my pre-college days weren't exactly brilliant, so I guess I completely turned that theory on its head.
I have always had a passion for acting but unfortunately my terrible acting skills had prevented me from ever achieving target number three. However, I shall always continue to imitate members of my family to the point of annoyance in the hopes that one day I shall be snatched up by a talent firm who believes I would be ideal for the big screen. It was never going to happen, but its always good to dream right?
Writing a book has always been something that I wish I had done but it never actually happened. I have several pretty notebooks lying around with story plans in them but somehow due to my busy schedule of procrastination, I have never found the time to actually write one! Hey, maybe I should just start writing fanfiction or something... I take that back. Thats never going to happen.
Delete my tumblr. Well thats interesting. I have no idea what possessed me to write such a thing as I have had the same tumblr for four years now, yes my url has changed, but its the same account. I guess old habits die hard? I have no idea why I thought that would be a good idea, I spend most of my life on that beautiful blue website and yes, I have looked back over my archive and deleted posts that make me cringe beyond belief. It was humiliating. But oh well, my tumblr is pretty spectacular at the moment so if you fancy checking it out or following me, then click on the link in the sidebar!
I am fully aware that I have mocked all of my targets from the dear sweet innocent age of fourteen, but I still stand by my final goal. I am still waiting for the day that Radio 1 will call me up and give me my own slot during primetime, but somehow I am doubting that would happen. But hey, one day you may be able to say that you read the blog of radios next hot thing! Wouldn't that be amazing?
Before you ask, there is actually a point to this post besides ridiculing my younger self, what I am trying to say is that although it may seem ridiculous at the time to write down your dreams, it is rather interesting to reflect upon them and see how much you've changed. It is really quite fascinating to put yourself in the shoes of your younger self and actually see what you were thinking! It is pretty fantastic to see how much you have developed as a person, and how priorities have changed! So I decided to do the same thing again, but instead of writing it down on ruled paper, I decided to share it with the internet:
- Pass my A-levels.
- Have a wicked GAP year.
- End up choosing a course for university that I am passionate about.
- Continue writing a blog for you lovely readers.
- Write a book.
- Recreate my 'look'.
Now, in comparison some of these targets do look menial and I guess I've kind of ranked them in importance but they are all things that I would really like to accomplish within the next year or so. Wish me luck!
