Tricky Tartan

Tartan is in trend. And if you reacted the same way as I did to that sentence, your face would mirror that of disgust, with your nose scrunched and eyebrows pulled down. Tartan is such a tricky pattern to wear as you risk either looking full on goth or like you belong in the hills of Scotland and unfortunately, I have born witness to both disasters on the streets of Manchester.

But despite any initial woes, there are ways to wear this trend without looking like you belong in the "What not to wear" column of People magazine, you can do this, the two of us shall venture into the world of tartan and emerge looking on trend and undeniably cute. And whats best is that we can do this on a budget.

[This Zara Tartan cape worn over a slinky H&M Jumpsuit teamed with a H&M felt cap and clutch is perfect for a smart casual evening in the city - swap those Miu Miu Loafers for a more reasonably priced pair of statement flats and you're good to go! Try pairing a statement tartan item with more neutral pieces for an on trend yet sophisticated look.]

[Try a tartan scarf with an all black outfit for both a pop of colour and a little edge. We all have those days where we feel like going darker and the red tartan scarf brings an edge. Primark sells red tartan scarves for £5, so there is no need to break the bank!]

[These tartan slacks from H&M are not dissimilar to the much more expensive equivalent from Zara and to be honest, it is difficult to tell the difference! If red isn't your colour, opt for a blue tartan and tone it down with a cream slouchy jumper and oversized plain black coat. Throw on a pair of chunky chelsea boots and a simple black handbag and you are good to go! For extra edge, pick up a set of midi rings which are everywhere - they feel a bit odd at first but do add something extra to your outfit!]

[Yet another tartan trousers and cream jumper combination; if it is a bit warmer where you are, swap the trousers for a statement tartan skirt (you can find these everywhere including Zara and Topshop), making the outfit more casual with clubmasters and some loafers which are definitely a wardrobe essential!]

Are you going to take a risk this season and invest in a statement tartan piece or play it safe with a plaid accessory? Let me know in the comments below!

Autumn Wish List - Chunky Boots

Along with the punk trend has come chunky boots which are a personal favourite of mine - especially ones with the now coveted buckle.

Heeled boots in general have been a favourite simply because of the ability to give the appearance of toned legs as well as boosting my height a couple of inches without my feet losing circulation such as is the effect of many stilettos.

But thick heeled boots are back with a vengeance, a particular common trend being a spin on the classically more masculine Chelsea boots.

These shoes add a much needed rock flair to even the simplest of outfits and allows you to go along with the punk trend despite a lack of grunge and tartan.

My personal favourites are the Nappa Chunky Heels from Zara (4) which are similar to the discontinued Topshop Aftershocks and are definitely unique with their white sole - my only qualm being the likely dirtying of the sole!

Alas, the Kurt Geiger Tamara Biker Boots (1) are absolutely perfect for cold nippy days and the quilted look alongside the buckle adds a dimension that the other ankle boots don't.

Covering Up

There is no denying that dungarees and overalls are suddenly back in fashion. With summer season rolling around, it seems that every high street store from Topshop to Zara is stocking up on them. Now all of us probably have adorable childhood pictures wearing a pair of these denim outfits, I in particular used to rock a white floral barbie set, but the ones that celebrities have been decked out in are far from childish.

With varying degrees of styles of afore mentioned dungarees, they can be purchased in any fabric or print from denim to cotton, allowing for them to be worn day or night, festival or dinner date. There are really no constraints to the variety that they can be worn.

I was in Singapore a week or so ago and every single shop I walked into had them. They were in the form of denim pinafores, long overalls, short ones, suspender-esque ones, there were literally hundreds of designs; Topshop even stocked a pair with a leaf print that verged on gaudy!

Alongside the trend for dungarees has been crop tops which seem to be in abundance at seriously cheap prices! Now I am assuming that these are slowly coming back due to the (predicted) hot summer ahead and the increasing number of high waisted bottoms from shorts to hi-lo skirts. Personally, I love them. If you have the body, you go out and rock them however you please, they probably won't be around enough for you to have a second chance! For me, it is simply more motivation to go to the gym. However, if you are a bit on the curvier side, you can still wear them with high-waisted outfits as it won't reveal your midriff, just probably try not to wear them with low slung jeans.

I love dungarees and will definitely be investing in a pair when I return for my GAP year (1 month to go!) and I can't wait to style them!

What do you think?

Topshop Craving

Hello my dears! As many of you are probably aware, I am currently completing my final year of sixth form before I embark off onto a gap year in the city of Manchester in the UK. The fact that I actually only have two months and two weeks until all my A-level examinations are finished is slightly worrying to be honest but also really exciting at the same time! So in amongst the copious amounts of revision that I have been trying to complete this holiday, I have also been spending a lot of time on a website that is topshop.com. Now whilst I love other brands to equal measure, the website is a heck of a lot simpler to use that my other favourite brand that is H&M and Primark doesn't have a website hence, Topshop.

A couple of years ago, Topshop went through a phase of selling clothing that I simply detested beyond belief which caused my interest in the brand to wain slightly however, as of recent I have purchased a couple of items from there and I am definitely warming to it. So basically now that I am head over heels in love with Topshop, I have been spending a considerable amount of time on the website sussing out items of clothing that I need would like when I'm back in the UK!

Confessions of a Shopaholic: Beauty Edition

Hello lovelies,

About a week ago, my family and I took off for a whirlwind trip around Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and unlike Brunei, KL had much more to offer shopping wise!

So basically, everyday involved us visiting some sort of mall, whether it be big, small or just plain fancy. However, this did cause an unfortunate rapid deterioration in my bank account! Although, I do have some purchases that I am in love with at the moment!

[Topshop makeup- Isn't the packaging so pretty?]

[I love the scarlet hue of 'Hazard' and the subtle tone to 'Rumour Has It']

[Sheer lip glosses from Forever 21]

[Basic full-sized Tweezerman tweezers. The best tweezers in the world]

[Revlon lipstick in Blush and mascara in Sexy Curves; Full Figure. The lipstick actually smells really nice, it's like scented!]

[I am addicted to Baby Lips by Maybelline and am on a mission to collect them all! They honestly do work!]

[I know these are accessories, but I caught them in a sale and the designs are actually so precious and classy]

[Victoria's Secret body sprays all smell phenomenal to say the least, and these two are my current favourites!]

Of course, I did buy different things as well as makeup, but that will have to be another post!
